Abstract
The recent launch of the Stillbirth Care Bundle in addition to the existing NHS outcomes framework indicator for neonatal mortality remind us of the DH target to halve the rates of stillbirths, neonatal and maternal death by 2030. Â Smoking in pregnancy and beyond is a significant risk factor for both stillbirth and infant deaths and rates remain highest in the most deprived and vulnerable. Â The policy drivers of the Care Bundle, and the forthcoming Tobacco Plan with an ambitious smoking in pregnancy target, present an opportunity to recognise the impact of tobacco on the lives of mothers and babies and discuss how local practice can be enhanced by the evidence to improve outcomes.
This session to support local practice will consider:
- What do we know about the impact on  still birth, infant mortality and health inequalities?
- What is the evidence for action and how do we make it work in practice?
- What are the drivers and challenges?
- Who needs to take action?
Examples, including babyClear and the Healthier Futures Incentives Scheme, will be included and it is anticipated that the session will raise many questions, provide some answers and generate much discussion.
