James Curtis Service Manager, Gloucestershire NHS Stop Smoking Service, Gloucester
Biography
James Curtis graduated from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff with a BSc in Sport Science in 2006. He went on to study at the University of Exeter achieving an MSc with Merit in Sport and Health Sciences specialising in Obesity research and epidemiology.
His first job was with NHS Gloucestershire in the Public Health department as a Health Improvement Facilitator in Food and Health specialising in childhood obesity and nutrition. From experiences of lecturing at university and obesity/health eating training he moved into the field of smoking cessation becoming the Lead Trainer and Clinical Lead of the Gloucestershire NHS Stop Smoking Service (GSSS) in October 2010.
In late 2013/early 2014 he project managed the implementation of a new service website and social media pages including Twitter and Facebook. This has brought the service up to the speed with the 21st century, improved our communication opportunities and reach across the county.
Now into his fourth year and has had the fortune of gaining promotion to Service Manager of the Stop Smoking Service. His role has now expanded to include the line management of the Service as well deputising for Elaine Watson as Head of Health Improvement/General Manager for Countywide Services for Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust.
