Abstract
This workshop will provide participants the opportunity to consider the process of securing and sustaining local support for Tobacco Control. It will consider this, in the context of two complementary projects, the Local Government Declaration on Tobacco Control and the NHS Statement of Support for Tobacco Control.
By signing the Declaration and the Statement, NHS and local government organisations make a public pledge to prioritise tobacco control and take action to reduce the harm caused by smoking, and the resulting health inequalities. Through this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore how this pledge can be used to secure local support and buy-in to ensure comprehensive tobacco control strategies are implemented.
During the session participants will explore the challenges they and others have faced to secure support. They will be provided with an overview of the Statement and Declaration and be encouraged to think about how such documents can be used to galvanise support. The workshop will go on to provide a local case-study to explore how others have secured support and subsequently implemented tobacco control measures, as well as providing examples of possible actions which could be taken.
