Biography
Elena is a lecturer in tobacco control at the UK Centre for Tobacco Control Studies at the University of Nottingham and specialises in the area of smoking and vulnerable groups, with a focus on severe mental illness. She conducted mixed methods research around smoking and smoke-free policies in the Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and led a Department of Health funded pilot project aiming to develop a tailored tobacco dependence support service for mental health patients. She is involved in the production of the forthcoming Royal College of Physicians report on smoking and mental illness and a member of a NICE programme development group concerned with guidelines for smoking cessation in secondary (incl. mental health) care.
