Abstract
The tobacco industry has a long history of attempting to undermine national and local government health policy. By reviewing local policies in line with Article 5.3 of the FCTC, local government can ensure that local health policy is not influenced by the vested interests of the tobacco industry and ensure that any necessary dealing with the tobacco industry are appropriate, open and transparent.
Run in partnership by ASH and the Tobacco Control Collaborating Centre (TCCC), this session will present a new suite of materials designed to help local authorities ensure local health policy is protected from the vested interests of the tobacco industry.
The session will include:
· A briefing on tobacco industry’s history of trying to undermine national and local government health policy
· Information on the resources available to help make the case locally to take action in this area
· Explore options for how local government can protect themselves against this
· Discussion session to provide feedback the new toolkit created by ASH & the TCCC
