Identifying and measuring the views, beliefs, experiences, concerns and attitudes of stop smoking practitioners in relation to e-cigarettes: How can we support stop smoking practitioners to apply their knowledge and understanding of e-cigarettes
Tina Williams Project Director, Development & Training for Tobacco Free Futures, Manchester
Abstract
There is evidence that many people who smoke are turning to e-cigarettes as a complete or partial substitute for tobacco.
At the same time the numbers going through stop smoking services have fallen and one of the main reasons cited for this is that people are using e-cigarettes as part of a quit attempt.
In May 2015 Tobacco Free Futures and Greater Manchester PHE Centre will run a qualitative insight research workshop to hear the views, experiences, concerns and attitudes of stop smoking practitioners in relation to e-cigarettes. The workshop will also include a pre and post quantitative study to identify any barriers to effective working with e-cigarettes and shift in attitudes. The outcomes of the workshop will be used to develop a brief guidance resource material for stop smoking practitioners.
This session will cover the outcomes of the focus groups and the quantitative study, the perceptions of practitioners working with clients using e-cigarettes and provide practical guidance for practitioners to work effectively with clients using e-cigarettes.
