Abstract
How is it that tackling smoking and implementing smokefree policies in hospitals can be so challenging? Surely the National Health Service should support the eradication of such a harmful behaviour and wish to stand as an exemplar for health?
For some years public health professionals and Stop Smoking leads have worked hard to engage hospital boards and clinical staff to support smokefree policies and protocols with varying degrees of success.
In recognition of the huge benefits to be gained from ensuring patients are smokefree before, during and after admittance to hospital, NICE has developed guidance to support implementation. Of course we know that for patients to be smokefree, it is essential that staff and visitors are compliant with smokefree policies.
This workshop will look at the NICE Guidance on Smoking Cessation in secondary care, share the learning gained so far and explore ways of engagement with hospital trusts.
The presentation will cover the key recommendations from the NICE Guidance on Smoking Cessation in Secondary Care and look at how to engage with clinicians and managers. This will provide a platform for an interactive workshop, organised to ensure that you leave with successful working examples and new ideas to implement.
