Dr Ian Cameron Joint Director of Public Health, NHS Leeds and Leeds City Council
Biography
Ian is Director of Public Health at Leeds City Council with responsibilities for health improvement, health inequalities and health protection. Ian is chair of the Leeds Health Improvement Board.
Ian has led Tobacco Control in Leeds with innovative work that has been the basis of a recent conference for the Yorkshire region. Ian has forged joint work with Pakistan and Bangladesh on Smoke Free Homes and recently Leeds has been awarded a research grant to evaluate a smoke free home guide for Muslim religious teachers. Ian was made Visiting Professor of Public Health at the Institute of Public Health, Lahore, Pakistan in 2007.
Earlier this year Ian chaired a conference in York on smoke-less tobacco with South Asian countries and the World Health Organisation. Ian is working with York University to establish a research and advocacy consortium against tobacco consumption in South Asia.
Previously, Ian has been a Consultant in Public Health with responsibilities for mental health, physical disabilities and learning disabilities. Ian is also chair of the Yorkshire & Humber Directors of Public Health network and an executive member of the national Association of Directors of Public Health.
