Biography
Marty Otañez is an assistant professor of cultural anthropology and filmmaker in the Anthropology Department, University of Colorado, Denver. He studies two distinct and overlapping areas: exploitative farm-level practices of tobacco companies in developing countries and digital health stories for policy change. He has published in journals including Tobacco Control; American Journal of Public Health; and Visual Anthropology Review.
Marty is a board member of the Human Rights and Tobacco Control Network (www.hrtcn.net) and member of the task force on Articles 17 and 18 of the Framework Convention Alliance, a global group of advocates that promotes alternative livelihoods for tobacco farmers and farm workers in tobacco growing developing countries. He operates the blog www.fairtradetobacco.org
