Biography
Dr Lesley Owen
From 2008 onwards, as a technical adviser in public health at NICE Lesley has led the economic analyses underpinning published guidance in the following areas: Promoting the social and emotional wellbeing of children; Preventing unintentional injuries among under 15s; School based interventions to prevent the uptake of smoking among children and young people and Quitting smoking in pregnancy and following childbirth. Forthcoming topics include Smokeless tobacco, Tobacco harm reduction, Smoking cessation in secondary care and an update of the guidance on Behaviour Change.
From 2005 to 2008, as a technical analyst Lesley led the development of national guidance on: Quitting smoking in pregnancy and following childbirth; Identifying and supporting people most at risk of dying prematurely; Preventing the uptake of smoking by children and young people; Workplace smoking cessation and Brief interventions and referral for smoking cessation.
Adam Lester-George
In 2004 Adam joined an eClinical solutions provider, designing and building human interface software for pharmaceutical randomised controlled trials. He has since worked in various healthcare and biomedical research roles focussing on facilitating public engagement and communications between stakeholders in academic and clinical projects. In 2010, Adam joined the South West Public Health Observatory as a Smoking and Tobacco Control Analyst where he developed data visualisation projects with Smokefree South West, ASH and Brunel University. LeLan Ltd was established in 2012.
Dr Subhash Pokhrel
Subhash’s key area of interest is the ‘economics of public health’. In 2010, Subhash joined a team of researchers to develop an economic model of tobacco control, funded by Fresh North East, Tobacco Free Futures and Smokefree South West. In 2012, Subhash led a NICE-funded project on the development of Return on Investment model for tobacco control. Subhash has also published on the impact of smoking on health-related quality of life.
