Abstract
Advocacy is increasingly recognised as a key element of the public health role because it can help in improving health and promoting wellbeing. It can be essential to creating the environment for policy change to occur and can have a significant influence on resource allocations.
The Advocacy Toolkit and associated training was developed to improve the advocacy skills of those involved in tobacco control and encourage the application of those skills to progress comprehensive tobacco control and thereby reduce smoking prevalence and harm from tobacco.
This presentation will help participants understand what advocacy is, the role of advocacy in tobacco control and how it relates to their job.
Copies of the Toolkit will be available for those participating in the session.
Source of funding: The writing and production of the Toolkit was financially supported by the NHS West Midlands Deanery with printing costs shared across the nine English regions.
