Biography
Kate Knight has 11 years experience working at a senior level at both the Department of Health and the NHS.
In Kate’s current post, she recently led the development of the first campaign in the UK to target hand rolling tobacco smokers.
Fiona is Director of Smokefree South West which launched in April 2009 to tackle tobacco-related death and disease and drive change across the South West to make tobacco history for our children. In this role she leads collective action to reduce smoking prevalence and is responsible for supporting effective regional implementation of the national tobacco control strategy and associated legislation. Prior to her current role Fiona had several years’ experience as the region’s Regional Tobacco Policy Manager and supported implementation of smokefree legislation to protect workers and the public from secondhand smoke.
During her career in public health Fiona was previously Assistant Director of Public Health for Bristol PCT, with a mixed portfolio including a lead on health inequalities, regeneration, and the health of older people. She also worked for a number of years in the mainly rural county of Somerset and planned and established the original Somerset Smoking Advice Service.
Over her career she has gained experience in both the public and private sector, undertook an MBA at Bradford Management School, an MSc in Public Health at UWE and previously worked in marketing and market research. She is a Public Health Specialist and Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health.
