Abstract
Research shows that almost half of all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people smoke, with lesbian and bisexual women being twice as likely to smoke as heterosexual women and gay and bisexual men are two and a half times more likely to smoke then heterosexual men.
This presentation will bring together a number of key findings from different research projects around LGB&T people who smoke and investigate the reasons behind why smoking in the LGB&T community is so prevalent. It will also explore the barriers to accessing smoking cessations services that LGB&T people face and give practical tips on how to ensure that LGB&T people are not being excluded from your service / services in your areas.
The presentation will also provide information gathered from The Lesbian & Gay Foundations “Queer as Smoke” service in Manchester and give insights into the work the service has been doing within the LGB&T community.
