Abstract
Preparing for implementation of smoke-free grounds and buildings policy (Mental Health)
I have been part of a Health Promotion group involved in preparing for going smoke-free in Mental Health units throughout Lanarkshire. Our remit was to provide training for all mental health staff and support and advice for clients and staff who wish to stop smoking. We were also involved in developing and implementing a flow chart for intermittent NRT for clients admitted to hospital.
We piloted the PATH (Partnership Action on Tobacco and Health) training pack, Raising the issue of smoking with Mental Health Service users, and are now delivering the training on a monthly basis. 17 mental health nurses have been Maudsley trained and link nurses are being established in all areas.
