The first UK Nicotine & Smoking Cessation Conference was held in 2005 and, after 12 highly successful events, it is with regret that we have decided to put the conference on hold, and will not be running the conference in 2017.
We recognise the importance of the UKNSCC to stop smoking practitioners, managers and commissioners (and indeed the field as a whole) but the current public health climate means that, despite the organisers fixing the delegate fee for some years, fewer and fewer delegates have been able to afford to come, and this trend looks set to continue. With changing markets, we also appreciate sponsors are finding it harder to commit funds to product support at large national conferences, and to do so early enough to enable the organisers to pay the necessary venue deposits.
After a study of the trends, and conversations with those in the field, we do not think it will be possible to attract enough delegates to an event in 2017 to justify the considerable sponsor investment, and commercial risk, and would rather wait until demand builds and we can run an event that will be successful for delegates and sponsors alike.
We will leave the abstract submission open on the site – if you would like us to run the conference again, and have something you or colleagues would like to present, please submit an abstract and we will keep it on hold, and present it to potential sponsors should we be able to get the conference going again.
Emails of support / pledges to attend the next one would also help us build the business case for support – please email monique@uknscc.org
Many thanks.
The conference organising team.
