Abstract
SmokeFree Services is the specialist tobacco team at Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS. SmokeFree Services co-ordinates a wide range of tobacco work across the health board area. Part of the challenge of raising awareness of services can be met by training and we offer a range of training to reach as many potential ‘referrers’ as possible.
Brief Advice: We offer the PATH brief advice 1 hour online followed by 3 hour training session. A training team (smoking cessation advisers community and mental health) has been set up to deliver the course across GGandC with central co-ordination and mentoring by SmokeFree Services. Since training in this format 6 months ago we have trained just over 100 people.
Students: SFS contributes to the curriculum for 2nd year nursing students, 1st, 4th and 5th year medical students, a range of
midwifery students, final year optometry students and 2nd year physiotherapy students.
Health Professionals: SFS contributes to teaching for FY1 and FY2 Doctors in a number of GGandC Hospitals and delivers lectures for a range of health professionals (consultants, registrars, clinical nurse specialists)
Other training courses include a 2 day Tobacco and Young People course, adhoc courses for allied health professionals, voluntary
staff etc.
