Abstract
The NHS Renfrewshire CHP Smokefree services which are part of the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board have developed an efficient and effective service structure which can easily be adopted many other stop-smoking services. Due to re-design of the service in Renfrewshire in 2008, new strategies were developed to incorporate new models of working and improve on existing systems. This resulted in the Renfrewshire CHP service obtaining an efficient and effective smoking cessation service from marketing through to referral pathways to running quit groups and to aftercare for clients. These local improvements to service delivery led to annual quit rates of 68% and helping over 1000 local clients quit for greater than 4 weeks in the year 2009. We are happy to share these best practice tips with other cessation services to help them achieve targets. These improvements include, centralised numbers, appropriate triaging, localised marketing and resources, client awards and effective-partnership working with other strands of cessation services including the pharmacists.
