NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde covers six council areas and has a population of approximately 1.2 million – 30% of whom are current smokers. The aim of Smokefree Services is to reduce the harm caused by tobacco to all who live and work in the area. To achieve this a comprehensive and integrated range of tobacco prevention, protection and cessation services has been established.
Our poster presentation will give an overview of the extent of the services and their links and it will demonstrate how Smokefree Services has provided support for the overall structure. The presentation will show the referral systems and some specific pathways that have been developed for youth, pregnancy, acute and workplace for ease of access to services. All services are evidence-based, inequalities sensitive and adhere to best practice.
All work is to agreed protocols with reporting mechanisms for monitoring and data collection thus ensuring an equitable and
quality service for all.
Evidence-based cessation training has been extended to include a mentoring and support programme for advisers to assist them apply the key skills required. Other presentations from NHSGGC will provide more in-depth information on some recent work.
