Abstract Smokefree Lincolnshire has developed a programme of work aimed at young people where smoking is an issue; known as Tic Toc the programme works with young people to increase knowledge and aims to change behaviours.
Tic Toc came about due to there being little published evidence of the effectiveness of interventions focusing on cessation activity in adolescence; additionally numerous schools and youth groups had requested more resources and support to tackle youth tobacco use.
The ONS estimates that in 2012 Lincolnshire had one of the highest proportions of young people (11-15) starting smoking (6.48% +) in England and Wales. Evidence suggests that the most effective tobacco control strategies aimed at reducing the uptake of smoking involve taking a multi-faceted and comprehensive approach.
Tic Toc aims to reduce the rates of smoking amongst young people and engage young people to get actively involved in national campaigns; this is done by working with partners to raise awareness of smoking and secondhand smoke through education and intervention. We offer support, guidance and resources to support ASDAN short courses in peer mentoring, an accredited national Level 1 Award in Smoking Awareness and free lesson guides supporting smoking awareness at Key stages 3 and 4.
