Abstract An examination of ten years of delivering the Smoke Free Homes Programme across Lincolnshire.
Aims
The aim of the review was to contribute to an understanding of whether the Programme had been successful in reducing harms from secondhand smoke in the home with the following specific objectives:
• To describe the number of families involved and the number of children protected from secondhand smoke.
• To describe the number of families signposted to other services such as Phoenix Stop Smoking Service and Lincolnshire Fire Service.
• To identify whether the Programme has targeted the most disadvantaged communities.
• To explore perceptions of service users about their experience of the Programme and their understanding of secondhand smoke.
Methods
Quantitative and qualitative analysis was undertaken using existing data from forms completed when users sign up and from 6-monthly user surveys.
Results
• Since 2004, 23,840 households have signed up to a Smoke Free promise, protecting 24,352 children.
• 1,252 referrals made to Phoenix Stop Smoking Service and 6,364 referrals to Fire & Rescue.
• Just over a third of households signing up were within the most deprived quintile in Lincolnshire (by IMD 2010).
• The vast majority of those surveyed reported a 'good' or 'very good' experience of the Programme.
