Abstract There is wide recognition that more needs to be done to address the poor quality of life and physical ill health suffered by smokers with mental health problems. However, success in increasing quit rates in this group has been low.
The CNWL Recovery College has developed a 10 week course designed to promote health and well-being in addition to providing specialised quit support. Co-produced and delivered by clinicians and trainers with lived experience, the Recovery College courses enable people with experience of mental illness to become experts in their own recovery and realise their personal potential.
GO SMOKE FREE MODUJLES:
PART ONE: Building the foundation to quit successfully (weeks 1-4). This part of the course assists someone with mental health/stress-related issues to improve their mental and physical well-being in preparation for quitting. The syllabus covers self-esteem building, improving well-being, life-style balancing, stress and mood management and understanding addiction.
PART TWO: Individual quit planning and support (weeks 5-10). Constructing a personalised quit plan and providing on-going support and sign-posting through the quitting phase and beyond.
