Abstract NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Smokefree Youth Services are developing a youth cessation mobile phone application which aims to help young people stop smoking and enable them to easily find out contact details for their local smoking cessation service. The app will include a personal profile section, will show how much money has been saved by not smoking, include a section for ‘quit tips’ and a community for users of the app to engage with each other and share their success or receive support from other young people who are making a quit attempt. Young people have been consulted as part of the development process and the content of the app has been designed on the basis of responses to a survey of young people.
The app will store non-identifiable information about the users (such as age, gender, smoking habits etc.) which can be used as statistical evidence for the levels of youth smoking and quit attempts within Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
The aim of this presentation is to showcase the development process of the mobile application, how the information collected will be used and why using this type of technology is important when assisting young people to quit smoking.
