Abstract Liverpool PCT in conjunction with Liverpool City Council - Children's Services funded a Project Officer delivered by The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation (RCLCF) to work with schools across the city with their Enhanced Healthy Schools Programme.
The project ran for four months enabling children and young people make positive changes to their behaviour regarding health and wellbeing.
Primary, Secondary and Special Needs schools must have chosen 'Reduction in Substance Misuse' as one of their Enhancement Priorities to participate in the project. The Project Officer provided training in a number of areas, including;
* Tobacco Farming
* History of Tobacco
* Tobacco Production
* Illicit Tobacco
A student group was established in each school to agree on a topic they felt passionate about and training was delivered in this area.
Training was provided using a variety of methods. In order for the school to meet the EHSS requirements pupils must feedback their understanding to various audiences using a range of delivery methods.
RCLCF worked with nine schools across Liverpool promoting the key messages around tobacco. Schools felt addressing tobacco issues would have a greater impact in particular as it is coming from a child or young person.
