Abstract Secondary Care Trusts have a responsibility to be exemplars around tobacco control and stop smoking support. Smokefree South West is working with Acute & Foundation Trusts across the South West to train patient-facing staff in brief advice skills and to embed referral processes throughout hospitals.
To raise the profile of their Smokefree status, a programme of branding hospitals as Smokefree is being rolled out. A ‘pod’ has also been funded to be placed in the main atrium of the demonstration site hospital. It has two purposes:
- to be visible to patients, staff and visitors to encourage them to approach for further information;
- to provide a semi-private consultation area to offer stop smoking support.
The pod will be staffed for 5 full days a week at different times. It will be fully evaluated after 3 months.
