Abstract
Studies suggest that up to 70% of mental health service user’s smoke, and commonly smoke heavily (20 or more a day), but that mental health service users are keen to be offered help to quit and can see benefits to their health and wellbeing if they do.
Following consultation with service users, they expressed that they wanted ‘wellbeing advice’ rather than just stop smoking support. Since 2007 Smokefree Camden has worked with the local mental health trust to provide a Wellbeing Advisor.
This includes organising regular events organised for patients with staff covering topics such as physical activity, healthy eating, healthy drinking and smoking.
Stop smoking clinics are provided in the three Community Mental Health day centres in Camden.
