Releasing the potential from primary care

Abstract
Primary care is a key setting for stop smoking interventions and an important source of referrals to specialist cessation services. Tower Hamlets is a diverse inner London borough with high rates of smoking and subsequent poor health. This paper will describe how a strategic and co-coordinated programme of working with primary care has successfully increased cessation activity within primary care and increased referral to specialist services and other providers. Key to this approach is a clear strategy, system changes and EMIS data capture systems.
